A Vulnerability Test is the first phase of a Penetration Test. In a Vulnerability Test, the customer receives a report that outlines all the different vulnerabilities encountered; information about missing patch levels, out-of-date hardware and software, and provides mitigation advice to close the loopholes down.
A Penetration Test, on the other hand, will also try to actively hack all systems where vulnerabilities have been encountered. For small businesses, a Vulnerability Test is usually sufficient. A Vulnerability Test is non-intrusive, which means no harmful actions against the tested systems are performed.
Vulnerability Test: Checks and advises regarding vulnerabilities
Penetration Test: Attempts a full hack, based on the vulnerabilities found
In our Vulnerability Tests, we find that 95% of new clients’ systems have one or more critical, high or medium severity vulnerabilities.
